Jewelry ‘Back It Up’ for M! Countdown comeback

It’s been a week since the comeback for Jewelry was teased and the four girls finally had their first comeback performance on this week’s Mnet’s M! Countdown.
More than a year has gone by since Park Jung Ah and Seo In Young left the group to pursue their solo careers, and it has been one long wait for fans as Star Empire patiently scouted replacement members to join Ha Joo Yeon and Kim Eun Jung.
Superstar K Top 10 finalist, Park Se Mi, joined the group 6 months ago, and Kim Ye Won rounded out the quartet, having just been unveiled earlier this month.
After months of preparation, the new Jewelry makes its return with a brand new power ‘locking’ hip hop dance style and b-girls concept for their comeback single, ‘Back It Up‘.

Park Jung Ah, Seo In Young pay Jewelry a surprise visit in support of their first comeback stage

Singers Park Jung Ah and Seo In Young paid a surprise visit to the new Jewelry generation, as the group prepared for their first official comeback through SBS’s “Kim Jung Eun’s Chocolate“.
The drop-in wasn’t planned in their schedules, but the former Jewelry members wanted to show their support for their dongsaengs. Surprised by their visit, the four were said to have immediately burst into tears because of the sweet gesture.
Jewelry commented, “We were all very nervous because it was our first comeback recording, and we had no idea that they were coming. We felt so strong having them there with us, and we’re very thankful to the unnis for giving us so much strength.  We’ll be repaying their support by showing great performances to carry on the name of Jewelry.”

Jewelry on their member changes and comeback

The idol industry isn’t like how it used to be. The fierce competition amongst idol groups means that a 2-3 year hiatus could leave a group in the dust.
Standing at the center with 10 years under their belt, however, is Jewelry.  The group debuted back in 2001 and went through slew of member changes before making a hit in 2008 with “One More Time“, which finally engraved their name in the industry for good.
After Seo In Young and Park Jung Ah left the group in 2009, Jewelry picked up two replacements to revitalize their group. Although none of the original members are left, these four ladies hope to make a triumphant comeback on January 27th with their digital single, “Back It Up.”
They explained, “We definitely had a lot of concerns over whether to change our name or not.  But the group that raised the roof for the Star Empire company is Jewelry. The affection for the name was too big to throw away, and it also has the additional meaning of never losing our ground.”
Member Eunjung confessed, “I feel a lot of pressure in having to fill Seo In Young and Park Jung Ah’s shoes, as well as having to lead the two new members, Park Se Mi and Kim Ye Won. Jung Ah and In Young unni both had such presence, you know.  We really do worry a lot about having to show a different image and succeeding.”
Juyeon continued, “We’ve been watching how the two unnis led and maintained the team, but now that they’re gone, it’s hard to take up their space. They were both so amazing. If I have one selfish desire, it’s to carry on the name of Jewelry.  Like the Jewelry that did well in the past, we want to make sure we don’t smear the name and let it shine.”
Regarding their goals, the four girls reached the consensus that “Jung Ah and In Young unni were both a mountain they had to climb over.”
“We want to become the best singers in Korea.  After we get our talents recognized, we want to get our name known overseas.  All of us linked pinkies and promised to stand on the year-end stages for 2011,” they said.
The girls also shared their plans on surviving in the cut-throat world of girl group competition. “There are a lot of girl groups but we think the competition helps promote growth.  We’ll be working hard to make the day come where we succeed in the market with just our charms alone.”

Jewelry’s former member Jo Harang responds to anti hate

Jo Harang has been the target of anti hate ever since Seo In Young revealed on SBS’s “Night After Night” that she was an outcast in Jewelry.
Netizens immediately targeted the original Jewelry member Lee Ji Hyun, as well as Jo Harang (who joined Jewelry at the same time with Seo In Young), to be the cause of her shunning, and flocked to their mini-homepages demanding apologizes and leaving hateful remarks.
On January 24th, Jo took to her Twitter to explain her side of the story by writing:
“When everyone was being outcast in order, was it really only In Young that wanted to die?  I joined Jewelry as a member right alongside her, and we were so close.  We’d go shopping together and stick by each other’s side.  Due to someone’s slander, we were divided and I became a complete outcast before our group’s re-contracting no matter how I went up to them and begged and plead.”
Afterward, I suffered from anorexia, sitomania, and aphasia.  I cursed myself for opening my eyes every morning and thought of dying over a thousand times until I closed them at night.
People that don’t know anything are looking at me now and spitting hate.  Apologize… for what?!  I want to beg with tears to ask whether you even know the truth.  This sinless soul is ripping to shreds once more.
You don’t even know anything, please don’t kill a person.  I genuinely request this of you.
I am living on today once more.  I’ll try hard and work hard in order to receive love for my talents.  Thank you.”
